NEOGEN Urea Agar Base (Christensen), 500 g
Urea Agar Base is used with agar for the differentiation of microorganisms on the basis of urease production in a laboratory setting. Urea Agar Base is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Christensen devised a urea agar medium containing peptone and dextrose that had a reduced buffer content. The medium supported the vigorous growth of many Gram-negative, enteric bacilli and readily permitted observation of urease production. Urea Agar Base may be used as a screening medium (along with Triple Sugar Iron Agar) for the selection of Salmonella and Shigella cultures for serologic classification. Urea Agar Base is also used to detect production of urease by yeast. Dextrose Tryptone Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.In the 1930’s, the National Canners Association specified use of Dextrose Tryptone Agar for isolating “flat sour” organisms from food products. “Flat sour” spoilage of canned foods is caused by Bacillus coagulans (Bacillus thermoacidurans). Bacterial growth results in a 0.3 – 0.5 drop in pH, while ends of the can remain flat. B. coagulans is a soil microorganism and found in canned tomato products and dairy products. Conditional Reprogramming (CR) Medium is optimized to use with 3T3-J2 Irradiated Feeder Cells (Catalog #100-0353) to expand epithelial cells without genetic modification. Mature epithelial cells have been shown to restore tissue-specific progenitor phenotype that enables proliferation in the presence of CR Medium (Liu X et al. 2012; Liu X et al. 2017). This conditional proliferative capability is deactivated once the medium is removed from the cells (Liu X et al. 2012; Liu X et al. 2017). CR Medium is suitable to propagate primary epithelial cells from healthy or tumor tissues (airway, retina, prostate, breast, intestine, pancreas, liver biliary duct, etc.; Liu X et al. 2012; Liu X et al. 2017; Suprynowicz FA et al.). This product is free of antibiotics and intended for Research Use Only. CR Medium must be supplemented with cholera toxin prior to use.
